The 2nd International Conference on Cultural and Entertainment Industries (ICCEI 2026)
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the 2nd International Conference on Cultural and Entertainment Industries (ICCEI 2026).
Following the successful ICCEI 2025, which fostered vibrant academic exchange and meaningful dialogue among scholars, industry professionals, and policymakers in the fields of entertainment and cultural industries, we are pleased to announce the 2026 edition of ICCEI.
The Korean Society for Entertainment Studies and the Meta-Society Research Institute at Sungkyunkwan University jointly invite submissions for the 2nd International Conference on Cultural and Entertainment Industries (ICCEI 2026).
ICCEI 2026 will be held from June 24 (Wednesday) to June 26 (Friday), 2026, at the International Hall, Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul, Korea.
🔹 Conference Theme
New Challenges: New Questions for Media, Cultural Arts, Entertainment, and AI Convergence
ICCEI 2026 takes place at a critical historical moment marked by rapidly changing media environments, structural transformations in the cultural and entertainment industries, and the accelerating diffusion of AI technologies. Against this backdrop, the conference seeks to re-examine the assumptions and methodologies that have guided existing research, and to foreground the “New Challenges” facing convergent research in media, cultural arts, entertainment, and AI.
This conference seeks to engage with the following core questions:
* How are digital platforms and generative AI transforming the central questions of cultural and entertainment research?
* In what ways do humans, technologies, algorithms, and platforms operate as new agents in the production and circulation of culture?
* To what extent can existing theories of media, culture, and entertainment adequately explain today’s convergent environments?
* What new units of analysis and methodological approaches are required in cultural and entertainment industry research?
* What challenges do Hallyu and local cultures face within the evolving global cultural landscape?
ICCEI 2026 goes beyond sharing current research outcomes. It serves as an international forum for proposing new research agendas and critical challenges that will shape the future of cultural and entertainment studies.

Submissions are welcomed in, but not limited to, the following areas:

* Global media industries and distribution structures
▪Cultural and Entertainment Industries
* Film, television, music, games, webtoons, and performing arts
* Intellectual property (IP), transmedia, and OSMU strategies
* Cultural industry policy and sustainability
▪Popular Culture and Audiences
* Hallyu and global cultural circulation
* Fandom, participatory culture, and user experience
* Cultural consumption and social impact
▪AI, Technology, and Cultural Convergence
* Generative AI and cultural content production
* AI, creativity, copyright, and ethics
* Human–AI interaction (HCI) and affective technologies
* Data- and AI-driven analysis of cultural and entertainment industries
▪Theoretical and Methodological Innovations
* New theoretical frameworks in media, culture, and entertainment studies
* Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method approaches
* Machine learning and deep learning–based analyses
* Cross-national and global comparative research
🔹 Registration
* There is no registration fee for ICCEI 2026.
🔹 Submission and Presentation Format
▪Submission Type
* Submissions will be reviewed based on abstracts.
* Papers for presentation will be selected based on the submitted abstracts.
▪Abstract Requirements
* Language: Korean or English
* Length: up to 500 words (or approximately 1,000 Korean characters)
* Abstracts should include the research purpose, research questions, methodology, and expected contributions.
▪Presentation Format (Hybrid Conference)
* ICCEI 2026 will be conducted in a hybrid format
* On-site presentations (in Seoul)
* Pre-recorded video presentations
* Participants who are unable to attend in person may present via recorded video.
